He was upset to see how much his gladiators preferred the company of his father to him. Remember Batatius was weirdly possessive of his men, rather hypocritically when you consider he always claimed to be a businessman and didnt sentimentalize the games like his father did. Plus, i think the second he learned about Barcas desire for freedom he was a doomed man. Made worse by the fact ashur had bribed the messenger to lie to him about the child being alive.
#Spartacus season 1 episode 7 plus
Most importantly- Ashur was wayy more effective at doing The dirty deeds of Batiatus than Barca, the perfect plan against Barca plus the effectiveness of Ashus work is what kept him aliveĪs mentioned Batiatius was under a sever amount of stress with the thought of the magistrate discovering he had slaughtered ovidious and his entire family and wasnt thinking clearly. Batiatus was a selfish arrogant man, he killed people for any reason against him without remose and with higher wealth, killing a slave meant nothing to him.Ĥ. He lied about the child being alive payed the messenger and had everything lined perfectly, then attacked Barca to start a fight.ģ. Although Batiatus knew Barca more everything indicated disloyalty and treason against him. Freedom: Batitatus knew that Barca was wanted his freedom, in a way hell see this as a disloyalty instead of an earned reward.Ģ.Ashur’s cunning personality: Ashur played EVERYTHING just right to put Barca in the worst position possible, he even used barca’s man Pietros against him. Its a combination of a lot of things that put Barca in a horrible position, that combined with how Batiatus felt like he was untouchable. Still, seems odd to just take Ashur at face value and kill one of your top gladiators… Maybe Batiatus just goes off of his emotions and pride, and so he feels snubbed at the very notion that Barca might’ve disobeyed him.
So isn’t Barca like his #2 gladiator now? Or maybe Batiatus just really likes Ashur and wants Ashur to be right.
But that seems odd - after all, Crixus has just taken a grave wound that knocks him out of commission. One, Batiatus is so into Spartacus that he just doesn’t think he needs Barca anymore. I actually have a few theories but I’d be eager to see what others say.īut here are my theories. So why is Batiatus so quick to have Barca killed based on what Ashur says? So why did Batiatus believe Ashur’s word over Barca’s…and to the extent that he actually kills Barca? We saw in Gods of the Arena that Barca has been with Batiatus longer than Ashur has, and he’s been Batiatus’ body guard and one of his top gladiators for a while.
